September 2018 – W.I.S.H program feeding the school
The school garden is flourishing with cabbages, Moringa plants and guava trees. Kales and tomatoes are at their final harvesting stage. W.I.S.H students are very proud of this achievement.
In the W.I.S.H program at Makonjemare primary school, in Kilifi, Kenya, the children and the teachers longed for a school garden that will help improve the nutrition of the school community. During W.I.S.H sessions, children are provided with a meal and they are very proud that they can now add green, healthy vegetables to their meal.
Children and teachers have also acquired skills they require to replicate the project of planting nutritious vegetables at their homes and within their community. The learning aspect of this project is that skills can be transferred.
The school is now planting Moringa trees (The miracle tree) which will add variety to their vegetable menu.
